Social media claim that the “Flame Towers”, one of the symbols of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, was illuminated in the colors of the Israeli flag in order to support the country in the armed conflict with the Hamas terrorist organization. Many page accounts, as well as individual users, who share the news on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) have made such a claim.

As of October 9, 2023, there is no official information about the “Flame Towers”, one of the symbols of Baku, being illuminated in the colors of the Israeli flag.

Searching open sources using the "reverse-search" method, it becomes clear that the fact that the “Flame Towers” was illuminated in the colors of the Israeli flag was recorded eight years ago.

On June 28, 2015, during the 1st European Games held in Baku, it was shown in order to welcome the Israeli team, one of the participating countries.

On that day, the flags of the participating countries were displayed in the “Flame Towers” in alphabetical order of the names of the states.

Conclusion:

- The images of the display of the Israeli flag in the “Flame Towers” are not new, they were taken during the 1st European Games held in Azerbaijan in 2015.

- This photo has nothing to do with the armed conflict between the State of Israel and the Gaza Strip.
